Recycling A Christmas Tree

If you are in the Houston/Galveston area and you bought a live Christmas tree to decorate,  you have a few options for recycling your Christmas trees.

DSC_0755The city of Houston Solid Waste Management Department and Living Earth Technologies’ residential Christmas tree recycling program runs today through January 11. The Program is closed on January 1. They only take natural, unflocked trees minus all decorations and tree stand one of 15 area sites. If you can’t deliver your tree and you receive the city’s automated garbage collection, you can place your tree curbside on your scheduled tree waste/heavy trash collection day, and it will be picked up for recycling. If you are in Galveston County, Galveston Partners in Composting — the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, the City of Galveston and Moody Gardens — will be running their Christmas tree recycling drive through Jan. 15. Evergreen and flocked trees will be accepted; no decorations or plastic or metal stands allowed. Wood stands will be accepted. Galveston County residents can drop their trees off at the City Recycling Center, 702 61st St., and the open-top Dumpster at the base of the UTMB water tower at Holiday and Harborside drives. For the Pearland/Brazoria County area, you can donate your tree to help rebuild the sand dunes. Brazoria County needs approximately   Through Jan. 9, residents and garden center representatives can drop trees (no artificial or flocked trees, or decorations) at AMI-Pearland, 12234 Shadow Creek Parkway, Building 3. From Thursday through Jan. 23, trees can be dropped at the Pearland Recycling Center, 5800 Magnolia Street or any county precinct barn; see www.brazoria-county.com for addresses. Precinct crews will transport the trees to the beach.

Fort Bend County residents can deliver trees to Living Earth Technology, 1503 Industrial Drive (Gessner @ Hwy 90) or CJM Soils Supermarket, 1700 Highway 90A East in Richmond 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays.

Montgomery County residents can drop trees at Montgomery County Recycling and Reuse Facility, 1122 Pruitt Road, Spring. 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday. The facility’s closed Jan. 1-3 and reopens Jan. 4. For information, call 281-367-7283.

Chamber County residents need to check with the Solid Waste Department (409-267-8202), 7501 Highway 65, Anahuac for tree drop site infomation. The office is open 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m Monday-Saturday. The office is closed Jan. 1.
