I’ve been trying new toothpastes last month or so because I’ve been less than happy with most of the commercial brands for a while. Something in them seemed to cause plaque instead of get rid of it (and yes I floss regularly). The first round, I tried Tom’s of Maine, but wasn’t impressed. If anything, while using Tom’s I had more problems with my mouth.
So while I was at the health food store last weekend, I went looking for another brand. I saw the Bee Rescued toothpaste bottle and even though it’s on the pricey side ($11.99 for an 8 oz bottle), I decided to give it a try. In addition to being 100% natural, it’s also very economical since the pump only dispenses a small amount of toothpaste at a time.
Bee-Rescued Toothpaste’s ingredient list includes the following: baking soda, Propolis extract, Grapefruit Oil, Clove Oil and Tea Tree Oil. It’s also gluten free. My mouth is much, much happier. My teeth feel like they’ve just been cleaned. And after just a few days of use, my teeth actually squeak and I’m not seeing the build up of plaque that I normally do on the back of my teeth. I’m pleased with the results I’m seeing.
I’d never heard of Propolis until I bought the Tom’s of Maine. Propolis is a sticky brown, green or red substance that is produced by honeybees. It is a blend of resins collected from buds, barks and stems of various trees and plants which are then mixed with the bee’s own saliva. Propolis helps honeybees maintain sterility within the hive, has been used by dentists in a wash form for oral surgery, and has anti-bacterial properties.
If you are an asthma patient, allergic to bee stings, honey or bee pollen, pregnant or breastfeeding, you shouldn’t use propolis because it can cause allergic type reactions. If you are allergic, you’ll see some of the following symptoms:
- Reddened skin
- Develop rashes
- Swelling,
- Itching, or
- Cracking.
You may also see the following effects:
- Eczema;
- Lesions;
- Psoriasis, or
- Mouth sores.
You can get it locally in Houston at Erma’s Nutrition in Nassau Bay. You can order Bee Rescued from their web site.
